My kit came packaged in a cardboard tube wrapped in plastic and included everything the company website said it should.
My choice for this product is titled SHELL PICKING. As most of you know I love all things beachy and I pick up lots of shells. This design is perfect for me!
Painting Tips
Paint by number is really self-explanatory, and some of us have a little experience with the hobby. But as I mentioned before, Winnie’s Picks is not your paint by number company of the 70s. They design kits for adults and with… well… as modern technology has taught some of us “older” adults, there is always room for instruction and tips.
Winnie’s Picks has a section on their website that gives some tips on how to get started. You can get those tips here.
The tips section recommended that you start at the top left-hand corner and work your way to the right and downward. This will prevent getting your hand into the wet paint you just painted. If you are left-handed reverse this and start on the right-hand top corner.
Painting
When I got ready to paint, I decided to paint outdoors. I painted at our picnic table under some trees. The natural light helped me see the tiny areas.
Some of the numbered areas are really small, and I had to use a magnifying glass. I can’t complain about the tiny areas that were a little hard to see. Winnie’s Picks attention to detail is impressive and those tiny details are necessary.
Take a Step Back
After painting for several hours I didn’t think it looked very good. I was certain the shell in my painting didn’t look at all like a shell. I painted over the shell a second time because I thought I had messed it up. I checked the paint colors just to make sure that I painted it the correct colors.
It all began to come into focus when I stepped away from it a little. By the time I finished painting, it all looked just like it should!
The Finished Canvas
I wanted to display my canvas in my camper so I decided to mount it onto a piece of foam board. The foam board was cut to the size of the painted area of my canvas, which was 19 1/2 x 15 1/2.
I was very pleased with my Winnie’s Picks paint by number kit. I loved the design, the colors were beautiful, and the blues and greens were perfect.
The paint was a nice full-bodied paint and was easily thinned with a drop of water when needed. There was plenty of paint, and I had a good bit leftover.
The paintbrushes that came with the kit were nice. I would like to have had a smaller flat brush and a larger round brush, but they worked well. The small brushes were useful for the fined detailed areas in my painting.
All in all, I was very pleased with my paint by number kit from Winnie’s Picks and I would enjoy painting another one!
