WASHING THE BEACH AWAY

All Things Beachy, WRITING PROMPTS AND SHORT STORIES

Our Prompt Party!

Grammy Dee, from our Blogging Grandmother’s group, hosts a blogger’s link party based on story prompts. Each party begins with a story prompt and we all write different stories based on that prompt.

This is our second Prompt Party.

The new prompt is:  As I stood in the shower with the warm water running down…

This is my short story.

As I stood in the shower with the warm water running down my face, washing away all traces of my day at the beach, I thought about how refreshed and relaxed I felt.

The Beach Calls Me

The sand, the sun, and the sea. There is healing here, for my body and soul.

I have known in my spirit that the sea calls me, but only recently have I come to understand why I feel so refreshed when I visit here.

the beach is calling my name

Life fills us with stress and negativity. Fatigue, worry, and a general feeling of weariness seem to crush us because of our busy lives.

Often, I feel that drawing to the beach, knowing that all will be better when my feet touch the sand.

Studies actually show that a walk on the beach with the sand between your toes really will make you feel better.

But how? Why?

Earthing

It is called earthing, you can read more about it here.  Earthing is grounded in these principals.

The earth is an electrical planet and has a mild negative charge.

The human body is also electrical, and many of the functions of the body use electrical impulses to work, such as our hearts, brains, and nervous systems.

Our bodies naturally have a positive charge and over time that positive charge builds up leading to inflammation. Inflammation on a cellular level seems to be a common denominator of most health disorders.

Our bodies have become separated from the earth by our modern living. Our shoes, vinyl flooring, concrete, asphalt, all separate us from the ground, and rarely do we ever reconnect to it.

When our bodies reconnect to the ground and its natural negative charge it discharges some of the positive charges built up and returns our bodies to a more natural state.

So there really is a scientific reason for the refreshed feeling you get from walking barefoot on the beach.

Earthing Heals

I know the beach calls me to return to it time and time again. And washing the sand and salt from my hair, will not remove its healing from my body.

As I stand in the shower with the warm water running down my face, washing away all traces of my day at the beach, I smile knowing the beach really does heal me.

What an interesting piece. I had not heard of earthing but it makes sense. I am one to keep my shoes on just about all day until bed time, unless they are pinchy pointy-toed heels, then they come off as soon as possible. My daughters both go barefoot as much as their busy lives will allow. And we all love the beach, the water, the sand, the sun. Now I have another reason to justify that love and to use in requesting a beach vacay of my husband this summer.

Thanks Leslie, I use it as an excuse as much as possible!
