SNOWMAN WOOD SLICE ORNAMENTS

GYPSY CRAFTS

I just couldnt wait till closer to Christmas to start crafting ornaments. I always get the bug to paint in October, and my lists for holiday crafting starts to grow!

This year it was a little different. My daughter hosted a benefit for a relative that has cancer. I was asked to donate some items for the silent auction.

One of the things I made was a set of snowman wood slice ornaments. The farmhouse theme seems to be very popular this year and who doesn’t like snowmen? It sounded like a perfect combination to me!

You can follow in this video or read how I made the snowman wood slice ornaments below the video.

Supplies

This project was a favorite of mine because it was so simple! It only required a few basic supplies.

Basic Steps

1)The first thing I did was to drill a hole in the top of the wood slices. I’ve been told that you can get wood slices with holes already drilled, but mine was not, so my hubby drilled holes so I could thread ribbon or twine when I got ready to hang them.

2)The slices have a natural ring that separates the smooth wood and the outer bark of the slice. I used that ring as a guide for the snowman’s face. I painted right up to the ring.

3) I googled free snowman faces and found a ton of pages that had snowman faces that you could download and use on your projects. Be sure to check the terms and conditions if you find some free snowman face patterns. Often they are free to use for personal use, but can not be used on items that you sell.

4)I drew faces on my painted wood slices and painted them.

This step is optional but I prefer to have the ornament finished on both sides, so I painted the backside as well.

After painting a white background on the backside I drew a circle and painted a little vine with berries. Very basic design requiring no talent at all.

5)I threaded twine through the hole for hanging.

6)I glued a little flower on the top of the ornament.

These little snowman wood slice ornaments are always a hit when I paint them and are so easy I can usually get my grandkids involved.

Are you looking for an easy ornament to paint this year? This may be just what you are looking for! If you try them, I would love to see your version!

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.

I disagree your pine wreath on the back does show talent. I love them and a great idea for children to make as well.
