HALLOWEEN SOCK GNOME TUTORIAL

GYPSY CRAFTS

Hello everyone! Today I have a really cute project to share with you. This HALLOWEEN SOCK GNOME project is quick and very inexpensive. Most of the supplies needed for this project can be purchased at Dollar Tree.

These little guys are so much fun. Pinterest and YouTube are loaded with lots of ideas for sock gnomes. I have made them before, (you can see them here), but today I am going to show you how I made them for Halloween.

VIDEO TUTORIAL

HALLOWEEN GNOME | GRACE FOR A GYPSY PROJECT SUPPLY LIST
HALLOWEEN GNOME | GRACE FOR A GYPSY SUPPLIES

THE BODY

HALLOWEEN GNOME | GRACE FOR A GYPSY SOCK FOR BODY

The first thing we want to do is cut the white sock across to the heel. Any sock will work.

We are going to use the part with the toe as his body. Fill a pint jar with rice, and slip sock over jar. Turn jar over to fill sock with rice.

HALLOWEEN GNOME | GRACE FOR A GYPSY RICE

Pounce and fill, pounce and fill until you get him the size you want.

Tie off the top with a rubber hair tie.

Reinforce with some string.   (if your hot glue accidentally touches the hair tie it will melt it)

THE NOSE

Before you start to pinch off a bit for his nose, place the hair tie on your fingers as shown in the picture. When you are pinching the nose you won’t have a free hand to get your hair tie in position.

hair tie position on fingers

Pinch off a little bit for his nose. Secure it with a tiny hair tie. For extra security tie around the rubber hair tie with string. Cut ends of string short.

making nose

Brush a little blush on his nose. Just for a little color.

HIS COAT

The next step is his clothes or coat.

Take the colored sock and cut it across to the heel. .

Use the piece with the toe and slip it up over the white body.

Tuck it under the nose. Put a touch of glue around the nose.

Glue in place all the way around

THE BEARD

Cut a triangle for the beard. It should be about 3 inches across the top and about 4 inches to the bottom point.

Cut a small notch for where the beard goes under the nose.

Glue the beard in the notched area under the nose.4 (the actual picture of the Halloween sock)

Then glue both sides of the beard.

HIS HAT

Glue the bottom edge of the cone and place it on the gnome’s head. Reinforce with more glue around the base of the cone. Let the glue dry. (see video)

Use the top part of the colored sock for his hat.

I cut the thick band off the sock and gather the ends and tie them with rubber band hair tie, making a little pompom.

With the heel towards the back, pull the sock over the cone, covering the face of the gnome with just the nose sticking out.

Glue the hat in place all the way around.

ADD EMBELLISHMENTS

Add spiders or other embellishments.

What a cute little guy! Sock gnomes will look so handsome as a Halloween decoration!

Thank you for hanging out and reading about this project! If you try this, I would love to see YOUR  sock gnomes!

I made some fall gnomes that can be seen here!

Thanks Jenna. Dollar Tree socks are cute and cheap! Most of the time I buy socks from Dollar Tree for my gnomes.

Adorable. Would love to make one of these for Lucia. I bet she would be enchanted by a Halloween gnome. Are those your hands? They are so young looking. Mine are covered with age spots/liver spots/sun spots and look all veiny. Very witch-like!!
