DOLLAR TREE DINO ORNAMENTS TUTORIAL

GYPSY CRAFTS

Dollar Tree Dino Ornaments

Hello Everyone! I am back with a Dollar Tree Dino Ornament Tutorial!

This time of year I am always busy creating things for the holidays and on the top of the list are ornaments to be shipped to our grandbabies.

As some of you know, we have 13 grands, 7 of them are boys. But even the girls in my family are interested in Dinosaurs, so when I saw these dinos at Dollar Tree, I knew I would have to make them. I saw these ornaments online last year, but it was too late to make them, so this year, I made sure I got them done and mailed to our grands in time to go on their Christmas trees.

Our Dollar Tree had quite a collection of dinos, saber-tooth tigers, and other animals. These were some of the ones I picked up…

Step 1

The first thing you need to do is wipe down the plastic dinos. I didn’t think to do that with the first one I painted and oily bubbles popped up through the paint.  So I dunked them all in some soapy warm water, rinsed and set them outside in the sun to dry thoroughly.

Step 2

When I was sure the dinos were dry, I painted them with white acrylic paint. I used a semi-stiff natural bristle brush. It took 3 coats.  When they were completely dry, I brushed mod podge over them to seal them and keep the white paint from scratching.

Step 3

Make a wreath that fits over the dino’s head with the green pipe cleaner. Embellish the wreath with small greenery, berries, jingle bells, etc.

Step 4

Make a loop with your ribbon that you use for hanging your ornament. Leave tails on the loops long enough to wrap around the belly of your dino and hot glue to secure it.

Step 5

Put the embellished wreath on the dino. Tie a bow with your choice of ribbon.  Hot glue your bow near the hanging ribbon.
