Deer Head Ornament
Hello Everyone! Welcome to my Deer Head Ornament Tutorial!
I love making Christmas ornaments and this year my ornaments started with these really cheap glittery deer head ornaments.
You can check out this 3-minute video to see how to make them or continue here on my blog for all the details for making these adorable deer head Christmas ornaments.
I thought these would make cute deer head ornaments for a few of my grandbabies that are deer hunters. And who can resist glitter? I found this pack of 3 deer head ornaments at Dollar General for only $1.50.
Supplies Needed for Project
I gathered up some supplies that I thought I might need for this deer head ornament project.
- deer head ornaments from dollar stores
- wooden rounds from Walmart (they come 6 to a pack)
- paint for the wood rounds, I used brown paint
- a paintbrush
- a wired Christmas tree stem, (Hobby Lobby) I believe there were 12 stems in the pack.
- wire cutters for cutting the wired Christmas tree stems
- ribbon
- jingle bells
- berries, and other embellishments
- scissors
- glue gun and glue sticks
Step 1 – Paint the Wood Round
The first step was to paint the wooden round. I painted mine brown, but you can paint yours any color you want.
Step 2 – Glue Deer Head to Wood Round
I hot glued the deer head ornament to the painted wood round. Some hot glue will ooze from around the deer head but we will cover that up later.
Step 3 – Tie Ribbon for Hanging
At the top of the head of the deer head ornament, there is a small hole that you can tie a ribbon or string for hanging on your Christmas tree. I had some silver trim left over from a previous project and I used it on my deer head ornaments but you can use anything.
Step 4 – Embellish Around the Neck of Deer
The next step is where the fun begins….I love embellishing! I have boxes of “embellishment” items that make me happy. In my stash, I found these glittery green Christmas stems and some red stems with little glitter berries on them.
I cut the Christmas tree stem to fit around the deer head ornament neck. I used hot glue in a few places to tack it down a little.
Step 5 – Add Some Additional Embellishments for Color
The glitter green pieces I cut from a Christmas stem I bought at the Nutcracker Holiday Market was perfect for this project, so I cut it up into little pieces. I glued some small pieces to the wreath around the neck of the deer head ornament just to add a little glitter and color.
I tied a couple of jingle bells together with my silver trim and hot glued them to the base of the deer head ornament.
To cover up the glued area I added some red glitter berries that I cut off a Christmas stem. I placed them directly over the glue from the jingle bells.
My Finished Deer Head Ornament
I love how this turned out! A cute little deer head ornament made from dollar store items and my stash! It was an inexpensive ornament for this year’s tree, and my daughters and grandchildren that enjoy hunting love them!
I hope you enjoyed this deer head Christmas ornament tutorial! If you decide to try this I would love to see your ornaments!
Have a Merry Christmas!
