My good friend, Grammy Dee, from Grammy’s Grid, hosts a blogger’s link party based on story prompts.
This story is a writing exercise and is linked to Grammy’s Grid – Short Story Prompt Link Party 18. This is how it works…
- write a short story using the short story prompt she provides

This month’s prompt is …It was Friday, time for the weekend to….
Here is my story.
It Was Friday
It was Friday, time for the weekend to start. But it was not like most weekends. The weekend was different. There was no rushing around doing this or that.
It was Friday but there was no grocery shopping, no having lunch at our favorite place. There was so much social distancing.
It was Friday, but the weekend was just like every other day over the past few weeks. Endless hours at home, cooking, cleaning, and finishing projects started long ago.
It was Friday, but it was the beginning of a new way to spend our weekends. I actually read a paper book. Most of my reading tends to be online, but I found myself growing weary from my phone and laptop, so I read a book. It had been a long time since I turned pages. I didn’t know I missed that, until now.
And there was conversation. Actually talking about everything and nothing and it occurred to me that maybe this is just what we needed. Of course, I am not referring to the horrible virus that is claiming our loved ones. But a voluntary, self-quarantining, resetting our brains. Taking a step back and seeing what really matters.
I survived not going to Wal-mart. I didn’t really need to see that latest movie. Not going to the craft store was a little challenging, but I lived through it and I had projects at home to work on.
It was Friday, and I took a break from doing nothing and called my family. Dad learned to answer video calls and was happy to hear AND see me.
The grands all loved our family conference call and we decided to make it a habit.
Be Encouraged
Be encouraged, my friends. Storms never last forever. This one will pass too.
The Bible says that God can take what is meant to harm us, and use it for good. This virus is dreadful and has turned our country upside down. But in the midst of the storm, millions of people have found some good in their confinement.
Parents are spending quality time with their children. Couples are co-quarantining, together at home spending time as a family.
Like it used to be.
Friday was a great start, to my weekend and a different way of doing things. It was the day I began to see what was really important to me. It was the day my priorities became easy to see. The rest of the busyness can wait.
I think I like this slower-paced life. Maybe I’ll call everyday Friday.
For a while longer, I think I will.
Blessings to all
