SOCK GNOMES
Hey Yall! I am super excited! Today I have a really cute project to share with you. This SOCK GNOME project is quick and very inexpensive. Most of the supplies needed for this project can be purchased at Dollar Tree.
These little guys are so much fun. I have seen these little sock gnomes on Pinterest and YouTube. And they are just adorable! So, I decided to make some for myself and show you how I did it!
They can be made for almost any holiday. I did the ones in this tutorial for fall. These can be used to decorate for fall or used on a Thanksgiving tablescape. Sock gnomes can also be made for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, 4th of July or any other holiday that you can find specialty socks.
VIDEO TUTORIAL
You can check out the Fall Sock Gnome video tutorial, but if you need a step by step printed tutorial I have also included one in this post.
THE BODY
The first thing we want to do is cut the white sock across to the heel.
We are going to use the part with the toe to use as his body.
Place the sock into the Salsa jar and fill with rice.
Pounce and fill, pounce and fill until you get him the size you want.
Tie off the top with a rubber hair tie.
Reinforce with some string. (if your hot glue accidentally touches the hair tie it will melt it)
THE NOSE
Before you start to pinch off a bit for his nose, place the hair tie on your fingers as shown in the picture. When you are pinching the nose you won’t have a free hand to get your hair tie in position.
Pinch off a little bit for his nose. Secure it with a tiny hair tie. For extra security tie around the rubber hair tie with string. Cut ends of string short.
Brush a little blush on his nose. Just for a little color.
HIS COAT
The next step is his clothes or coat.
Take the colored sock and cut it across to the heel.
Use the piece with the toe and slip it up over the white body.
Tuck it under the nose. Put a touch of glue around the nose.
Glue in place all the way around
To keep the sock from stretching out too much, tie some just rope around the gnome’s body and tie on the side. This will help hold his shape and helps keep the sock from stretching out.
THE BEARD
Cut a triangle for the beard. It should be about 3 inches across the top and about 4 inches to the bottom point.
Cut a small notch for where the beard goes under the nose.
Glue the beard in the notched area under the nose.
Then glue both sides of the beard. (somehow I managed to NOT have a picture of the beard! The beard should be glued on before the cone.)
HIS HAT
Glue the bottom edge of the cone and place on the gnome’s head. Reinforce with more glue around the base of the cone. Let the glue dry.
Use the top part of the colored sock for his hat.
I cut the thick band off the sock and gather the ends and tie them with rubber band hair tie, making a little pompom.
With the heel towards the back, pull the sock over the cone, covering the face of the gnome with just the nose sticking out.
Glue the hat in place all the way around.
ADD EMBELLISHMENTS
Add buttons to the hat.
Tie a little twine around the hat.
Glue flowers, berries, on the hat or on the sock gnome body
What a cute little guy! Sock gnomes will look so handsome on your Thanksgiving table!
Thank you for hanging out and reading about this project! If you try this, I would love to see YOUR sock gnomes!
