Hubs finally got a day off, a much-needed day of rest. Working 7 days a week sure can wear a man out. He barely qualifies for Sr. discounts, but still, the hours are long and he is grateful for a day of rest.
A Day of Rest
It is such a blessing to be able to stay busy with plenty of work and to add to that blessing a day off to rest.
Rest?
REST?
For Ted, a day of rest means getting up an hour before daylight and loading his truck with fishing gear while I sleep.
You see, I understand the meaning of rest, even though my dear hubby does not. He can barely stand the wait until daylight when he can wake me without feeling guilty. At the first glimpse of sunshine, he woke me up and waited patiently in his truck for me to join him. Bless him, he tries so hard to be patient.
First Stop
So our day of rest began with a quick stop at Micky D’s for a mocha frappe and breakfast burritos. Trust me, this girl needs a caffeine fix to tackle a day of rest with this man!
The truck was packed with the necessary supplies to catch enough fish to feed the entire campground, although, we only needed to catch enough for the two of us for dinner. We set out to find the perfect fishing hole.
A Beautiful River
Our first stop was a small river, the North Fork Ninnescah River. It was a beautiful river, shallow, but it looked like a great place to fish. Our hooks were in the water, and we settled in, all ready to soak up the peaceful sounds of a river flowing next to us. Life is good.
Life is Good
Yes, life is good, for every bit of 15 minutes, only 5 of which I was actually sitting down, resting in the peace and quietness of the river.
Then I hear it.
“Babe, it’s too shallow here, let’s look for another spot.
(Sigh)
So there I was resting.
And then
I was not resting.
So we folded up our chairs, loaded the truck and set out again searching for the perfect spot to fish.
The Perfect Spot
We had found (on a previous exploring trip) a beautiful lake. It was only a few more miles up the road, and we were already pointed in that direction.
Cheney Reservoir had several public access sites and we stopped at the first one.
Hubby liked the looks of this spot, so we unloaded and within 20 minutes he had caught 3 small fish for bait. Perfect! He is in fishy heaven and can relax. His day of rest was shaping up just like he wanted it to.
We Caught Fish
White perch caught in Cheney Lake are on the aquatic nuisance list, but you can use them for bait. Hubs would much rather catch his own bait anyway, so he rigged up my rod for bait fishing.
There were at least 12 of those little white perch creatures in the lake that day, and I caught 10 of them. We took a picture of the biggest one.
Hubby did much better than I did, he caught a most coveted walleye, but sadly, it was too short to keep and we had to release it.
It was a beautiful day, and it didn’t matter that we had to catch and release the fish. The sunshine felt good, and the breeze kept the heat down.
Resting
After several hours of “resting”, we packed all of our gear one more time and headed back to the camper. We love our Sunday afternoon outings, and that day was no exception.
Hubby’s day of rest was a success, he got to fish, and relax.
But “resting” is such hard work, and we finished the afternoon with a nap.
As for our dinner plans, thank goodness for the fish we had in the freezer. It was delish!
Monday was a work day for hubby, and I spent it resting from our day of rest.
What do you like to do when you get a day to rest?
If you fish all over the country like we do, you may need a fishing journal like the one I published. You
can find it over at Amazon here.
